Obituary for David Reece Amos

David Reece Amos, 70, of New Matamoras, OH passed away on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at the Kobacker House in Columbus, OH due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on March 25, 1948 in Marietta, OH to the late Virgil and Vera Amos.

Dave is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sandy Webb Amos, whom he married on July 18, 1970. Also surviving are two children and five grandchildren, Chad Amos of Shadyside, OH (fiancé, Erin Bowen, Blaze and Bryce Amos) and Jason Amos of New Albany, OH (wife Suzanne, Noah, Luke, and Avery Amos); brother, Alan Amos (wife Lori), two nephews (Matt and Jeff Amos), and numerous friends and extended family members from Alabama and Tennessee. He is also survived by his beloved uncle, Mike Doan.

Dave retired from the Bureau of Public Debt in Parkersburg, WV. Dave was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing, golfing, and hunting (especially turkey hunting). He loved cars and trucks and enjoyed keeping them in pristine condition. He also loved spending time with his grandchildren and family. He loved watching his grandsons play sports, and had a special place in his heart for his only granddaughter, who was his princess. In his earlier years, he enjoyed coaching his sons’ baseball team and the Mighty Midgets basketball team. He left a positive impact on the young men he coached and mentored. He also enjoyed following the University of North Carolina men’s basketball team, often hosting North Carolina/Duke basketball watch parties with his sons and their friends. Dave also loved dogs, especially his ‘grand-dogs,’ Buddy, Bear, and Phoebe, along with Diesel from Alabama. Most of all, Dave was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, and he will be greatly missed.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Vera Amos.

A memorial service will be held starting at 11 AM on Monday, July 2, 2018 at Hadley Funeral Home New Matamoras, OH. Visitation will be held from 12-4 PM and 5–8 PM on Sunday, July 1 at the funeral home and just before the funeral on Monday. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Matamoras Junior Athletic Association, PO Box 515, New Matamoras, OH 45767.
