Obituary for Julianne S. Hill

Julianne S. Hill, 84, of Marietta, OH, died Monday, November 13, 2017 at her home surrounded by family. She was born January 26, 1933 in Marietta to Alice Wendelken Sturgiss and Joseph M. Sturgiss. She was educated in Marietta City Schools and was graduated in 1955 from Ohio University, where she was a member of Alpha Xi Delta sorority and Theta Sigma Pi, national journalism honorary. Following graduation, she was employed as Assistant News Director at Ohio University. She had belonged to the Alpha Xi Delta Alumnae, was a Franciscan Meals volunteer for many years, and was a long time member of the Marietta Arts and Crafts League. She was a lifelong member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church where she had served in various capacities.
She is survived by her husband, Thurman E. Hill, whom she married in 1956; her brother, J. Patrick Sturgiss and his wife Beverly of Hilliard; two daughters, Lauren J. Hill and her husband David O'Brien of Taylors, SC, and Anne V. Etter and her husband Robert of Marietta. There are three grandchildren, Madeleine Fields (Brady), Jessica Etter, and Benjamin Hill O'Brien.
Hadley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for cremation with interment in the St. Luke's Episcopal Church Memorial Garden. A memorial service will be at the church at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Luke's Episcopal Church In Memorium Fund.
