Obituary for Roger K Hock

Roger K. Hock, 77, of Marietta, Ohio left this world on Friday, November 2, 2018. He was born on March 18, 1941 and was the oldest child of Frank and Joan Newton Hock.
Roger was a graduate of Marietta High School with the class of 1959. He graduated in 1970 from the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts. Roger served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1964. While in the army he was in the 113th Army Band in Ft. Knox, Kentucky and the 24th Infantry Division Band in Augsburg, Germany. He directed the American Activities Youth Band and was commended for his part in upgrading German-American relations and morale for which he was awarded the "SCROLL OF APPRECIATION".
While at Berklee, Roger studied arranging, composition and instrumental performance. He was a member of the "Elite Trombone Ensemble" and appeared in many concerts. In 1972 Roger organized the group 20th Century Limited, a well rehearsed and popular band which opened shows for top acts as Ike & Tina Turner, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jose Feliciano, Ronnie Spector and the Ronnets. While in Boston, Roger contracted musicians and performed on trombone with many groups including The Four Tops, Fabian, Bobby Rydell, Al Martino, Frankie Valli and The Four Seasons, Thelma Houston and comedian Foster Brooks. His recording experience included commercials and documentaries and a featured solo on Andy Pratt's first album plus TV appearances with his 20th Century Limited Group on The Larry Alltop Show, The Patty Cassara Show and Fabian.
After returning to Marietta, Roger became president of the local chapter of the American Federation of Musicians and conducted the union "Big Band" and organized and led the successful and popular group The Brass LTD.
In later years Roger worked for the Parrish family in sales and management for Family Carpet.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Diane Hock Brown. Surviving is his favorite aunt Jane Hock White and his caregiving-cousin Jane Kincheloe and cousins Jo Carper, Judy Reed, Pam Ross and Jennifer Harper.
Per Roger's request, there will be no service with cremation by Hadley Funeral Home in Marietta.
