Obituary for Naomi Ruth Casto

"It is enough; earth's struggles soon shall cease and Jesus calls us to Heaven's perfect peace."
(Naomi) Ruth Casto, 92, of Marietta , OH passed peacefully from this life on June 5, 2018 at her home. Born July 25, 1925 in Marietta to the late Clyde and Nellie McClead Young, she lived her early years in Parkersburg and was a graduate of Parkersburg High School.
She was employed as secretary and office manager for Shelly and Sands Inc. for over 32 years, until her retirement in 1992. Retirement did not last long! When Walmart of Marietta first opened their doors in 1994, mom was there as a "People Greeter"- for 16 years, before giving up the "cart roundup" at the age of 85! She loved greeting people but went against store policy wherein she was supposed to say, "Hi! Welcome to Walmart!" She always joked, that “If people don't know where they are, I'm not telling them!” When dining out or at other local places there was always someone who recognized her from having seen her at Walmart.
She had a wonderful sense of humor that carried over into conversation with everyone she met. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Marietta, where she had previously served as a deacon. For many years she was an avid bowler and was a member of the W.I.B.C. She was also a captain of multiple bowling teams over the years. She was a member of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She loved to work crossword puzzles and there was never one too difficult for her to conquer in a short time.
On November 21, 1944 she married Robert D. Casto. They divorced in 1975. Together they had five children who survive; Stephen (Jill) Casto of Cumby, TX, Cheryl (Paul) Siskowic of Lower Salem, OH, R. Kim (Christine) Casto of Akron, OH, Bruce (Cheryl Neville) Casto of Marietta,OH, Chris (Tammy) Casto of Chesterhill, OH; grandchildren, Stephanie (Lou) Griego, Ian (Heather) Casto, Tim (Brooke) Cutshaw, Debra (Eric) Lawson, Terri Koon, Robyn (Rocky) Snow, Erin (Mike) Frost, Rennelle (Jon) McKitrick, Andrea (Nathan Stalnaker) Casto, Ashley (Bethann) Casto, Wes (Holly) Casto; great grandchildren, Olivia and Oscar Riveria, Luke Griego and Jillian Casto, Larynn Cutshaw, Kristen Gregory, R.J. Koon, Kimberly, Allie and Rocky Snow, Samantha Frost, Baylea and Carder McKitrick, Brody and Cason Karcher and Charlie Casto; great great grandchildren, Mason and Jaxson Munoz. She is also survived by her younger brother Richard Young and his wife Barbara as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her older brother, William Young, and sisters, Marilyn Oldham and Judith Rathbone.
The family wishes to thank hospice for their recent involvement in the difficult transition phase. We especially thank her caregiver Cheryl Neville, as well as Bruce who made it possible for mom to remain in her home until her death.
In keeping with her wishes, she was cremated.
A memorial celebration of her life will be Saturday, June 30, 2018 at 11 AM at the First Baptist Church in Marietta at the corner of 4th and Putnam Streets. Visitation will begin at 10 AM until the time of service. A luncheon at the church will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to hospice or a charity of your choice.
