John J. Hadley Past President


John was born in Marietta, OH, attended Marietta City Schools, Greenbrier Military School, and graduated from Marietta High School in 1961. He attended Marietta College until enrolling in the Cincinnati College of Embalming from which he graduated in 1965. John was a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the States of Ohio and West Virginia and was also a certified crematory operator. John was the second generation of Hadleys to join our funeral home. He served three terms from 1995 to 2010 on the Board of Embalmers and Funeral Directors for the State of Ohio. John was a pre-need licensed insurance agent in the state of Ohio.


John was married to the former Barbara Lois Bonar of Harrisville, WV, and had three children: John Robert "Rob" Hadley( Pamela), third generation funeral director, Jamie Lynn Hadley (Craig), Doctor of Audiology, and Lois Virginia Hadley (Matt) , financial analyst for Limited Brands Columbus, OH. John was a member of the Masonic Bodies and was the 2008 Potentate of Nemesis Shrine Center, Parkersburg, WV. He was a past president of Marietta Shrine Club in 1977 and was Director in 1999 of the Royal Order of Jesters, Court #156, Parkersburg, WV, and was serving as Impresario. John was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church, B.P.O. Elks #477, Loyal Order of Moose #1823, and Fraternal Order of Eagles #458, all of Marietta, OH. He enjoyed golf and collecting antique funeral coaches and ambulances, being past president of the Professional Car Society. John's community involvement extended to his being on the Board of Directors of locally-owned Settlers Bank.


Sadly, John passed away at his home surrounded by family on April 13, 2013 after a year long battle with cancer.

Barbara Lois Hadley graduated from Harrisville High School in Harrisville, WV, in 1968 and from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV, in 1972. She taught English and French at Williamstown High School in Williamstown, WV, for ten years. She married John J. Hadley in 1980, and they have one daughter, Lois Virginia Hadley, a 2005 graduate of The Ohio State University. Lois works for The Limited Brands located in Reynoldburg, OH as a financial anacyst. Barbara is a licensed funeral director in The State of Ohio. Barbara's father and mother, Robert and Virginia Lou Bonar, were the owners of Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville, WV, for many years.


Barbara is a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church in Harrisville, WV, and in Marietta she attends St. Luke's Lutheran Church and Christ United Methodist Church. She is a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, #29, Harrisville, WV, and Daughters of the Nile, #162, Parkersburg, WV.

Lee was born in Marietta, OH, and attended Marietta grade schools and is a graduate of Greenbrier Military School of Lewisburg, WV, with the Class of 1957. He attended The Ohio State University for one year and graduated from Marietta College in 1962. He then attended Cincinnati College of Embalming, graduating in 1963. He is married to the former Ruth Smith of St. Marys, WV, who is also a licensed funeral director. Lee is a licensed Ohio and W. Va. funeral director and embalmer . He is also certified by the Cremation Association of North America as a crematory operator.


Lee is active in the Masonic Bodies and is a member and secretary of Matamoras Lodge #374 F.& A.M. of New Matamoras, OH, and secretary of Harmar Lodge #390 F.& A.M. in Marietta, OH. He is a past master of both lodges. He is also a member and past presiding officer of the Marietta York Rite Bodies, consisting of American Union Chapter #1 Royal Arch Masons, Marietta Council #78 Royal and Select Masons, and Marietta Commandery #50 Knights Templar. He is also a Knight of York Cross of Honor, and a past Deputy Division Commander for the 4th Division Knights Templar of Ohio. Lee is a member of the Allied Masonic Degrees and the Holy Royal Arch Knights TemplarPriests. He is a Knight Commander of the Temple (KCT). He is also a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter #261, New Matamoras, OH., Nemesis Shrine Center A.A.N.M.O.S., Parkersburg, WV, and is a trustee and 2011 President of the Ohio Valley Shrine Club, and a member of the Directors Staff. Lee is a member of the Royal Order of Scotland, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge, Ohio Valley York Rite College #196, and Past President of Ohio Masonic Lodge Secretaries Association. He is a past member of the Board of Greenbrier Military School Alumni Association. He is also a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, the Pontiac/Oakland Club International, and National Corvette Restorers Association. He is a collector of antique Corvettes, Pontiacs, and funeral cars.

Ruth J. Hadley Funeral Director

Ruth is a licensed Ohio funeral director, an Ohio pre-need licensed insurance agent, and is certified by the Cremation Association of North America as a crematory operator. She is married to H. Lee Hadley. She graduated from St. Marys High School in St. Marys, WV, and attended Marietta College, and WVUP in Parkersburg, WV.


Ruth is a member and past president of the St. Marys Business and Professional Women's Club, past president of the Ohio Funeral Directors District #12, St. Marys Chapter #31 and Matamoras Chapter #261 Order of the Eastern Star, Ladies Oriental Shrine of North America, and White Shrine of Jerusalem #12 of Marietta, OH. She is a member of the Ohio River Sternwheel Festival Committee, Marietta, OH, and serves on the entertainment committee and the program committee for the Festival.

Rob is a licensed funeral director and embalmer in the State of Ohio and also a certified crematory operator. He is the third generation of Hadleys to continue the tradition of family service established by his grandfather, Harold, and by his father, John. Rob was born in Marietta, graduated from Marietta High School with the Class of 1988 and received his B.S. degree from Cincinnati College of Embalming in 1992.


Rob's wife, Pamela Sue Hadley has a real estate license and enjoys going to auctions and yard sales. Their children are Desiree Schmitz of Marietta, OH, Kyle O'Keefe (Katheryn) of Cambridge, OH and Trevan O'Keefe of Honolulu, HI and granddaughters Addison Hadley, Parker Noelle and Autumn Ellie O'Keefe and a grandson Jackson Nash O'Keefe. Rob is a member of Harmar Lodge #390 F. and A.M., Nemesis Shrine of Parkersburg, WV and past president of Marietta Shrine Club (2001), Tyler Co. WV Shrine Club, Loyal Order of Moose #1823, B.P.O. Elks #477. He is also a member of the Marietta Boat Club. He enjoys traveling, automobiles (old sports cars) and his Yorkie/Mix O.B. (Our Blessing).

Matt is originally from the Cambridge/Byesville area where he attended Meadowbrook High School from which he graduated in 2009. During his time at Meadowbrook, Matt played football and baseball and was in the National Honor Society. After Graduation, Matt attended the Ohio University - Zanesville branch for two years prior to transferring to the Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science. Matt Graduated from CCMS in the fall of 2012 at the top of his class, earning the Summa Cum Laude honor and was awarded the Dr. A.J. Nunnamaker Award for Highest Scholastic Standing, the Charles O. Dhonau Memorial Embalming Award and the Homer D. Leffler Award for Funeral Directing.


Being a first generation funeral director, Matt moved to Marietta and began his career with us in December of 2012. He is the son of Mike and Tami Kennedy of Cambridge, Ohio and has three brothers, Michael (Stacy), Nathan, Nicholas; a sister, Amanda; three nieces, Adriana, Emalee, Kaylee; and a nephew, Chase. Matt enjoys spending time with his wife, Maeve, daughter, Nora Jaye and their cat and dog, Georgie and Rigby.

 

Matt departed from the funeral industry in September, 2023 to focus on his family and to pursue a different career path.

Morris L. "Moe" Rohdy

Morris "Moe" Rohdy has been working with Hadley Funeral Home since 1982. He was born in Napolean, OH, and attended Malinta-Grelton High School in Malinta, OH, where he graduated in 1964. Starting in 1966, Moe served with the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne in Vietnam. Moe is a Certified Cremation Operator with the Cremation Association of North America.


Moe is active in Masonic bodies, Harmar Lodge #390 F. and A.M., Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite, Nemesis Shrine, and is a member of the Nemesis Shrine Legion of Honor and the Marietta Shrine Club. He is a member of American Legion Post #64, life member VFW Post #5108 and a member of Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie #2307 Parkersburg, WV. Moe enjoys fishing and hunting and his two children and grandchildren live in northwest Ohio.


Moe retired in February of 2015.

Dale E. Ferrell

Dale E. Ferrell worked for Harold Hadley during his high school years and graduated from Marietta High School with the Class of 1953. He served with the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Dale is married to the former Kay Davis and has three children and four grandchildren.


Dale retired as division sales manager of Lorillard Corp. with 32 years of service. Dale is a member of Norwood United Methodist Church, Harmar Lodge #390 F. and A.M., Nemesis Shrine Center, Parkersburg, WV, Marietta Shrine Club, Tyler County Shrine Club of Sisterville, WV, American Legion Post #64 and VFW Post #5108 both of Marietta, OH. He is member of the Legion of Honor of Nemesis Shrine. Dale is a Certified Crematory Operator.
