Lloyd E. Ullman, 87 of Lower Salem, Ohio passed away Friday, January 25th at the Marietta Center for Health and Rehabilitation. He was born in Germantown, Ohio on December 14, 1925 to the late Howard and Clara Ullman. Lloyd graduated from Elk Local High School in 1943 and entered the Navy in 1944. He was a radio operator in Okinawa when the war ended.
In 1958 he became Postmaster at Lower Salem, Ohio and served 32 years. He was on the Board of the Ohio Branch of the National League of Postmasters where he served 4 years as President. After retiring he also served as President for 4 years on the Retired Branch. In 1986 he was named Postmaster of the Year by the Ohio Branch.
Lloyd was a member of the Lower Salem United Methodist Church and served as a trustee and a member of the Elk Township Grange of Noble County. He was Mayor of the Village of Lower Salem for 10 years. He served on the Board of Directors of the Lower Salem Commercial Bank until it was sold.
He was a member of the Masterton Lodge #429 F&AM serving as Master in 1958. He then served 46 years as their Secretary. He was a member of the Marietta Council #78 and a member of the American Union Chapter #1 Royal Arch Masons of Ohio. He was a member of Chapter #584 Order of Eastern Star and served 8 years as Worthy Patron.
On January 17, 1948 he married Thelma Rapp, and they recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Together they had three children, Linda (Robert) Mesnard, Dale (Joann) Ullman and Dwight (Vickie) Ullman. They have 7 grandchildren, Shannon (Neal) Davis, Shane and Shawn (Sylvia) Sullivan, Todd (Christine) and Brad (Shelly) Ullman, Ross Gibson and Brooke Ullman as well as 5 great-grandchildren.
Lloyd has one sister, Jewel Ullman Baker of Caldwell.
Services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 28 at the Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike Street, with Pastor Louis Verdi and Richard Saltzwedel officiating. Burial will follow in the Salem Township Cemetery with full military services by American Legion Post #64 and VFW Post #5108. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 27 from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM followed by Masonic Services and Eastern Star Services. Memorials may be made to the Masterton Lodge, the Village of Lower Salem Community Building or the Lower Salem United Methodist Church. Online condolences may be made at www.hadleyfh.com
