Obituary for Ruth Handschumacher

Ruth E. Handschumacher of Whipple, OH went to be with the Lord at her home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, November 26, 2017. She was born February 11, 1935 the daughter of the late Gilbert and Nora Seyler Becker. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1952. She was a charter member of Masterton Chapter #584 OES, Highland Ridge Community Church, Stanleyville School Reunion Committee, Salem Township Fire Department, and Lowell American Legion Auxilliary.
She is survived by her children Cheryl (Wayne) McAlarney, Jane Schott and Jay (Debbie) Handschumacher all of Whipple, grandchildren Doug Schott, Kyle (Jessica) McAlarney and Curt Schott of Whipple; Kaitlyn (Eddie) Bielic and Lindsey (Logan) Schwedeman of Marietta. Her precious great granddaughters Makayla Ruth and Grace Hollie McAlarney of Whipple; Chloe LeeAnn Schweitzer of Marietta and Baby Bielic due February 2018. She’s also survived by her sister Dorothy Smith of Marietta and sister and brother-in-laws Don (Carolyn) Handschumacher of Newport, Peggy Brooker of Churchtown, Gerald (Betty) Handschumacher of Belpre, Howard (Cheryl) Handschumacher of Belpre and Lucille Handschumacher of Canton. She will also be missed by special friends Edna Berg and family, LouAnn Camden, Betty Zimmer and many nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She was preceded in death by the love of her life Hollie (Hod) Handschumacher, son Daryl Edward, son-in-law David Schott, mother and father-in-law Talmage and Edith Handschumacher, brother Dean Becker, sister and brother in laws William Smith, Hudson and Ella Stewart, James Handschumacher, Howard and Gertrude Gerken, Harry (Hank) and Mildred Handschumacher, Melvin and Mary Jones, Charles and Geraldine Handschumacher, Ray and June Williams, Dwight Handschumacher, Harold Lloyd Handschumacher, and Jackie Handschumacher.
A heartfelt thank you to those special people who helped Ruth and her family including: Brenda Robinson, friend and neighbor, Chris Sills, Holly Wright, Jennifer Johnson, Barbara Edgar, Renee Alkire, Kristen Holbert, Marilyn Knoch Wilson, Debbie Burkhart, Linda Moore, Lois Hasley, Sue Ann Strimer, Dr. Kelli Cawley, Dr. Brockett, and hospice nurses Maggie Haines, Shawnda Hardison, Shawna Eifler, and Brittany Ambrose.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, November 29, 2017 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta with Pastor Mark and Judy Jones officiating. Burial to follow in Salem Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until 8 PM on Tuesday, November 28 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Salem Township VFD or Highland Ridge Community Church.
