Obituary for Marilyn C. Schafer

Marilyn C. Schafer, 87, of Marietta, OH passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was born October 23, 1930 in Zanesville, OH to the late Howard Paul and Mary Edith Redman Christy.
Marilyn was the 4th generation owner and operator of Schafer Leather Store, founded in 1867, where she was active with her husband from 1968 to 1994. Marilyn graduated from Marietta College and was a member of the Alpha Xi Delta Sorority. She was among the early members of the Marietta Welfare League. While at Glenwood, she was on the Executive Committee for the Resident Association Council.
She is survived by her son, Robert H. Schafer (Barbara); daughter, Christy DelMastro (Earl); granddaughter, Katheryn Wesel (Andrew); grandson, Peter Schafer and numerous friends and staff at Glenwood.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Schafer and a brother, John Philip Christy.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Monday, March 19, 2018 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, OH with Roger Rush officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 PM on Sunday, March 18 at the funeral home.
