Obituary for Dean A. Ketelsen

Dean A. Ketelsen passed away unexpectedly, Friday, April 13, 2018 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Dean was born October 21, 1951 in Clinton, Iowa to the late Gerhardt and Maudie Ketelsen.
Dean was a retired Captain of Washington County Sheriff’s Office, a US Air Force Veteran, a long time donator to the St. Joseph Indian School in Chamberlain, SD, and he played a significant role in implementing Project Life Saver into Washington County.
Dean was a man of great character who loved one thing the most, his family. Dean could fill a room with laughter and never left without a hug.
Dean is survived by his loving wife of almost 38 years, Bonnie (Burmeister) Ketelsen, whom he married September 6, 1980 in Muscatine, Iowa; sons, Allen Ketelsen of Georgetown, South Carolina, Lucas (Natalia) Ketelsen of Blacklick, Jerad (Taryn) Ketelsen of Clovis, California; daughter Carrie (Josh) DeWinter of McConnelsville; brother Doug (Mary Anne) Ketelsen; sisters Marlene Yeater, Gwen Ketelsen, Wilma (Lee) Jones, Delores Shoemaker, Norma (Ronnie) Shoffner, Peggy Ketelsen, Sandy (Rich) Laeser, 14 nieces and 14 nephews and numerous great nieces and great nephews and one great-great nephew.
Lastly, he was survived by the most precious thing to him in the world, his five grandchildren; Trevor Ketelsen, Ivan and Yevgenya Ketelsen, Wyatt DeWinter, and Elijah Ketelsen. Dean made being a grandpa look easy.
To say Dean will be missed by many is an understatement. He was loved so dearly by his family, as well as, the community. Dean was always the person to help when others were in need. The expression “he would give you the shirt off of his back” fits Dean perfectly. Anything Dean did, he would do with all of his heart; including being a father, grandfather, brother, uncle and neighbor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Donald, step-mother, Adelia Ketelsen, and a very special cousin, Gail Trogden.
A memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta with Kevin Rinkes officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to The Lower Salem United Methodist Church, 101 2nd St, Lower Salem, OH 45745, or Little Steps Early Learning Center, 3897 Righteous Ridge Rd, Waterford, OH 45786 .
