Obituary for C. Brooks Harper

C. Brooks Harper, 79, of Marietta, OH passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2018 at his residence. He was born on August 23, 1938 in Phoenix, AZ to the late Ernest Brooks and Winifred Edythe Russell Harper.
Brooks was a former city councilman, President of Council and Mayor. He was head of the Safety Town Program and President of the Harmar Bridge Company where he was in charge of turning the bridge every year. He graduated from Marietta High School in 1956 and was a veteran of the Navy. Brooks was a member of Marietta First Baptist Church. He was employed by Union Carbide and finished his career working for Broughton's Dairy. He was also an avid antique collector and owned Harper's Landing. Brooks was a Past Master and member of Harmar Lodge #390, F&A.M., Past Excellent High Priest of American Union Chapter #1, Royal Arch Masons, Past Illustrious Master of Marietta Council #78, Royal and Select Masters, Past Commander of Marietta Commandery #50, Knights Templar, Past Grand High Priest of 13th Capitular District, he was a former member of the Masonic Park Board, Past Secretary/Treasury of the Masonic Temple Board, Past Governor of the Ohio Valley York Rite College #196, where he received the Order of the Purple Cross, Past Sovereign Master of American Union Council #445 Allied Masonic Degrees, Past Excellent Chief of the Knight Masons #94, Past Worthy Master of St. Thomas of Acon #16, Past Puissant Sovereign Master of Lafayette Conclave Red Cross of Constantine, a member of the Grand College of Rites of the U.S.A, a member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Cambridge where he served on the Learning Center Board for Dyslexia, Holy Royal Arch Knights Templar Priests Tabernacle A, a member of Aladdin Shriners, Marietta Commandery Drill Team, he was a recipient of the Masonic Service Award, Valley of Cambridge in 2016 and he was also a recipient of the Earl C. Gifford Award from Grand Chapter of Ohio.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Beverly Lankford, whom he married June 8, 1958; two sons, Michael Harper (Cathy) of Marietta, Chris Harper of Powell, OH; one daughter, Vicki Bober (Mark) of Powell, OH; six grandchildren, Jason Harper (Teara), Kaelly Erb (Joel), Matthew Harper (Rylee), Stephen Harper (Anna-Clare), Madison Harper and Mason Harper; six great grandchildren, Griffin, Elijah, Aamon, Kolbie, Austin and Aaron and one sister, Patty Eastham.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jay Harper and a grandson, Samuel Harper.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Thursday, April 19, 2018 at Hadley Funeral Home Reno Chapel, 1021 Pike St., Marietta, OH with Rev. Linda Steelman officiating. Burial to follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-4 & 6-8 PM on Wednesday, April 18 at the funeral home with a Masonic Service to be held at 8 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Historic Harmar Bridge Company, 122 Maple St., Marietta, OH 45750.
